How to Help Teenage Depression With a Teen Treatment Center

Teen treatment centers in the US are now being flooded with a deluge of teen depression problems.  It has been proved by reports that nearly 22 percent of teens suffer from severe depression which spirals well into their adulthood.  In seven percent cases, there have been suicidal tendencies also.  Compared to adult depression, teen depression tends to last longer.  This may come as a shock but it is true because today’s teen is in compulsive pressure to perform in academics, sports; they are pressurized to meet the expectations of their parents who take fat study loans thinking that their children will be able to study and pay it back. 

 Here are some of the reasons for teen depression:

Over-expectations by parents to study and get good grades.
 Troubled relationship at home; fights at home between parents and the issue of one or both the parents having a drinking problem.
Peer pressure and the inability to fit into a particular peer group and being branded as a ‘loser’
 Health problems; perceptions of being too fat  or too thin, or too ugly
 Relationship problems: break-up, loss of friendship, death of a pet. Teens are affected three times more by these problems than adults.
 Lack of career guidance: Teens find themselves at sea when they feel that they are lacking in the right career guidance as compared to their friends.
Drug and Alcohol addiction: Teens who abuse nicotine, drugs and alcohol are pushed more into depression and the same depression makes them addicted.

So we see from the above factors that teens tend to have a higher degree of depression compared to adults.  Almost 95 percent of suicide victims in their teens have taken the fatal step due to a long-standing depression that was not addressed properly according to authorities. It is good that now we have teen rehab programs that have been successful in preventing such causalities.  It has also been found out that there is a co-relation between teens who are depressed and those who take drugs including prescription drugs and club drugs like Ecstasy.

 Parents need to take a careful but tolerant view of teen problems.  It is the duty of the concerned people to make sure that the teen is taken to a teen rehab center especially if it looks like that the teen seems to be perennially in some form of worry or anxiety. Some of the symptoms include mumbling, stammering and hesitating due to anxiety and tension, panic attacks, a tendency to withdraw into one’s own shell, continual breaking down etc.

 Teen addiction treatment facilities have a team of therapists, doctors and counselors who are able to distill the mind of the teen, clear the confusion in his or her mindset, flush the negative thoughts and make the individual realize his or her self-worth. They take constructive steps to see that the confidence and the determination factor is bolstered so that teens are able to chart their own course for success.

We’re going to a wedding in atlanta. A suit for little kids seems kind of cheesy. But would khaki’s be to casual? What about seersucker pants, but what kind of shirt?

You don’t mention how young the kids are, but I’d say that either khaki’s or seersucker are totally appropriate for children. As far as a shirt, a nice, new, clean, crisp short sleeve, straight hem shirt, or even a polo shirt would be fine!

Terramed Alliance News Strengthens National Efforts to Conquer Childhood Cancer

Under the CureSearch flag, the Hope Street Kids program will continue to enhance national pediatric cancer research efforts and bring hope to the current continuum of scientific research. Combining Hope Street Kids support of research developments with those of the COG will lead to a broader path of scientific progress for pediatric cancer.

“Each day that pediatric cancer research goes under-funded, the road to discovering new treatments and cures become longer, and more children are put at risk,” said Gregory Reaman, M.D., Chairman of the Children’s Oncology Group. “We have a long history of success through collaboration; this new partnership will increase the likelihood of continued success.

Until now, advances in childhood cancer have been dramatic — 40 years ago cure rates were less than 10 percent; today, 78 percent overall are cured. Recognizing that there is more to be done, in 2008, Congress unanimously passed the Caroline Pryce Walker Conquer Childhood Cancer Act originally sponsored by former Rep. Deborah Pryce and named in honor of her daughter who died from neuroblastoma in 1999. The bill was signed into law in July 2008 authorizing 0 million ( million each year) to expand pediatric cancer research, awareness and to create the national childhood cancer research registry.

“Over the past ten years Hope Street Kids has had a wonderfully productive relationship under the auspices of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. We are truly grateful for the guidance and support that the organization has provided us for many years. We are delighted to team up with CureSearch to support the life-saving work of the COG,” said former Rep. Deborah Pryce and co-founder of Hope Street Kids. “I am confident that our new relationship will lead us to making the research advances necessary to ensure a healthy future for all children.”

The joint effort was announced today in front of more than 450 participants at CureSearch’s Reach the Day Rally on Capitol Hill featuring Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA). This year’s congressional visits from CureSearch families from 37 states and D.C. are focused on urging members of Congress to fully fund the bill. The M per year needs to be appropriated by Congress annually, and with the current economic situation the childhood cancer community is concerned about the funding being fully appropriated for 2010 and beyond.

“The addition of the Hope Street Kids to CureSearch will accelerate COG research from the bench to the bedside,” said Stacy Pagos Haller, Executive Director, CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation. “Together, we will reach the day when every child with cancer is guaranteed a cure.”

Also announced at CureSearch’s Reach the Day is the formation of the first Pediatric Cancer Caucus — members of Congress dedicated to conquering childhood cancer — and the congressional proclamation that September 12 is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day.
